Peter Fanton is a self-taught artist who has a career background in Education, Community Health & Development and Therapeutic Arts and Counselling. During his career, Peter was part of Community Development and Education teams sponsored by World Health Organisation and The World Council of Churches, helping to formulate initial responses to HIV/AIDS Care and Education in Africa and Northern Thailand. Peter's experiences with some of the worlds most marginalised people have influenced some of his creative images, especially those painted for this exhibition.
Peter's business ethos, quoted above, is a powerful and challenging statement against ignorance and discrimination. It is a statement which reflects the truth of his own story as well!
Many of his current ethnic images are a tribute of 'respect' and endeavour to reflect the warmth and hospitality he experienced from those who are often alienated and cast aside through disease, poverty and discrimination. Such images both reflect and demonstrate Peter's respect and empathy for the struggle for human dignity, he saw in the faces of many who have, and often still do, live in Silence and Fear. Often treated by others ... as 'other than'.
Peter now allocates profits from the sale of various artworks to support orphan children in Africa > 'Art For Orphans'.
