With fellow artist and friend, Larian
Sloan.
JUNE A. SINGLETON.
After retiring to Maleny in 1991 from
teaching Ancient History, History, English and French at Indooroopilly State
High School for 13 years, June Singleton began painting and was taught
watercolours by well-known artist, the late George Hazzard. June went on to
participate in several live-in courses run by international artists, Robert
Wade, Jennifer McNaughton, Amanda Hyatt and
recent workshops with Robert Lovett and Alvira Castagnet.
June has exhibited in many Art
Competitions winning several awards, including the 2004 Apex Award in the
prestigious St George s Art Awards and Competition. This painting was featured
on the front cover of the 2004 Maleny Business Directory.
In October, 2004, June and her husband,
Geoff, moved back to the Western Suburbs of Brisbane to Riverhills. That year,
she helped organise the successful St Catherine s Anglican Art Expo - which was
again staged in September 2006 and 2007. June conducted art classes in Acrylics
at Middle Park for 2 years.. In September 2006, they moved into Aveo Village,
Durack, Brisbane. Her art classes continue but at St Hugh s Anglican Hall,
Inala.
She has had many solo Exhibitions and is
to have a shared one at the Graceville Gallery in May, 2008 with fellow artist
and friend, Larian Sloan. Her work has been seen and sold at the Annual Maleny
St George s Art Exhibition and Awards, St Catherine s Art Exhibition and the
Lutheran Good News Annual Art Show. She is a member of the Watercolour Society
of Queensland and also of The Half Dozen Group f Artists Inc who meet at St
Mary s, Kangaroo Point, Brisbane.
Her work now includes larger pieces such
as trompe d eil for clients’ outdoor settings. She paints in watercolour, oil,
acrylic and mixed media. June s passion is painting from her travels around the
world and in Australia. Her subjects include landscapes, oceans, rivers,
people, cities, animals and flowers. It is the excitement of sharing, not only
the softness and romance of overseas places but also the stark reality,
loneliness and bold colours of Australia which motivates June in her painting.
They all echo her theme, I want to Colour my World for you.
