"Sanguine"

01/JUN/2008

Welcoming back Louise Grove-Wiechers for her July 2008 Exhibition at Graceville Gallery...

South African born artist and art educator,
Louise Grove Wiechers,
returns to Graceville Gallery for her second exhibition

– “Sanguine” –

a collection of paintings inspired by
the Big Red Continent – Australia.

Come to Graceville Gallery to meet Louise Grove Wiechers
and enjoy drinks and nibbles on Friday 4 July from 6 to 8 pm
at 465 Oxley Road, Sherwood.

Ms Louise Grove Wiechers said the term Sanguine refers to the use of red throughout all the works and also to the inherent optimism and confidence as found in the alternative definition of the word.

“It comprises a new series of large landscapes with abstract qualities,” she said.

“I have a fondness of the universal rural environment. It’s a dream state where everything seems almost unreal.”

Ms Grove Wiechers completed a Bachelor of Art in Fine Art in Johannesburg.
After her honours year, she completed a higher diploma in Education and started a career teaching and lecturing in art.

Louise’s first exhibition at Graceville Gallery, “The Intimate Landscape”, was in September 2007 soon after she arrived in Australia.

For the past 15 years, she has been painting on a full-time basis, had many solo and group exhibitions, and won several major art awards.

Her work forms part of private and corporate collections in Europe, Africa and North America.

Louise Grove Wiechers is currently teaching at the Lilly Lee Studio behind the gallery.

This exhibition runs from the 1st to the 30th of July at Graceville Gallery at 465 Oxley Road, Sherwood.

The gallery is open Monday to Friday from 10 to 5 and Saturday and Sunday 10 to 4.

Jemima Zoe Quinlan

26/FEB/2008

Introducing our Feature Artist for March 2008

Pas de Quattre: The Quad - Jemima Zoe QuinlanGraceville Gallery’s feature artist for March is emerging artist, Jemima Zoe Quinlan; an artist who explores the surfaces of the human body in oil, charcoal and graphite.

After years of training in ballet to university level, Jemima shifted her discipline to art. Her work differentiates the physical possibilities that erupt from each movement in a body.

“I paint nudes, but not conventional nudes,” she said.

“I want to provoke the viewer to question the validity of a painting; which parts are needed... sometimes fragments that seem unnecessary are a vital component.”

“This is something I love to do,” she said.

Graceville Gallery is delighted to welcome Jemima to its successful Feature Artist program where an artist holds an exhibition in the gallery
for one month.

The Graceville Gallery Team supports and encourages young emerging artists.

Graceville Gallery is in the art precinct on the corner of Oxley Road and Sherwood Road, Sherwood.

Jemima Zoe Quinlan’s exhibition starts on 29 February until 28 March 2008.

Louise Grove-Wiechers "The Intimate Landscape"

25/SEP/2007

Introducing our Feature Artist for October

"The Intimate Landscape" exhibition at Graceville Gallery

Graceville Gallery's second feature artist in the new gallery at Sherwood is recently-arrived South African painter, Louise Grove-Wiechers, with her exhibition - "The Intimate Landscape".

Meet the artist at a Wine and Nibbles party on Friday 19 October 2007 from 6-8pm at Graceville Gallery, 465 Oxley Road, Sherwood.

In this exhibition, from mid October to late November, the artist reveals her fondness of the universal rural environment and its inherent evocative emotion.

"It's a dream state," Ms Grove-Wiechers said, "where everything seems almost unreal - the crystal blue, the ultra green."

Louise Grove Wiechers has travelled widely in South Africa, the United Kingdom and Europe to experience rural life and communities.

After several visits to Australia, she decided to settle permanently in South East Queensland - on Tamborine Mountain.

"I have found the same universal inspiration in the local landscape," she said.

Born in South Africa, Ms Grove-Wiechers completed a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Art at the University of Witwatersrand, in Johannesburg majoring in Graphic Art and Printmaking. In her honours year, her subjects were Art Criticism and Fine Art Printmaking. She completed a higher diploma in Education, and started a career teaching and lecturing in art.

For the past fifteen years, this artist has been painting on a full-time basis, had many solo and group exhibitions, and won several major art awards. Her work forms part of private and corporate collections in Europe, Africa and North America.

"The Intimate Landscape" exhibition is on display at Graceville Gallery from 16 October - Tuesday to Friday 10-5 and Saturday 9-4.
